01
First steps

Getting started

Aurelia is designed to be configured from Shopify’s theme editor. You do not need to edit theme code for normal store setup.

Before editing a live store

Duplicate your current live theme first. Configure and test Aurelia as an unpublished theme, then publish only after storefront checks are complete.

1

Upload the theme

In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes, add a theme, and upload the Aurelia ZIP file.

2

Open the editor

Select Customize on the unpublished Aurelia theme. Start with Theme settings before adjusting individual templates.

3

Connect resources

Assign your main menu, footer menu, products, collections, blog, and any images used by sections.

4

Review templates

Check the Home, Product, Collection, Search, Cart, Blog, Article, About, Contact, and password templates before launch.

Recommended setup order

  1. Theme settings: typography, colors, layout, shapes, logo, favicon.
  2. Header and footer: navigation, search, localization, social links.
  3. Home page: replace placeholder content and connect store resources.
  4. Product template: confirm block order, swatches, buy buttons, inventory, pickup, and recommendations.
  5. Collection and Search: configure filters, sorting, card options, and swatches.
  6. Cart: test quantity changes, discounts, notes, accelerated checkout, and empty-cart behavior.
  7. Mobile and desktop QA before publishing.
02
Global controls

Theme settings

Global settings control the visual system and store-wide utilities. Open Theme settings from the left side of Shopify’s theme editor.

Typography

Heading font controls display headings. Body font controls paragraphs, controls, labels, and most interface text.

Layout

Choose the Maximum page width and global Page margin to control how open or compact the storefront feels.

Shapes

Set button, input, and card corner radii. Use smaller values for a sharper editorial look or larger values for a softer interface.

Colors

Configure background, text, headings, muted text, accent, surfaces, borders, primary buttons, and secondary button labels.

Brand

Upload the store logo and favicon. Header and footer can optionally use their own logo overrides.

Store utilities

Enable Quick View, free-shipping progress, and the back-to-top control. The free-shipping threshold uses the value entered in this panel.

Social media

Add Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, and YouTube URLs once. The Footer social block uses these global links.

03
Navigation

Header & mega menu

The Header controls the announcement bar, branding, primary navigation, account access, search, predictive search, and mobile navigation.

SettingWhat it does
AnnouncementShow a linked announcement above the header and choose its visual style.
LogoUse a header-specific logo override, desktop width, mobile width, or text-based logo fallback.
Main menuSelect the navigation menu used on desktop and mobile.
Customer accountShow Shopify customer account access and optionally assign a customer account menu.
Scroll behaviorControls how the header behaves as customers move down the page.
SearchShow search and optionally enable predictive search suggestions.
Mobile menu noteAdd a short heading and note inside the mobile navigation.

Set up a mega menu

  1. Create the desired nested menu structure in Shopify navigation.
  2. In the Header section, add a Mega menu block.
  3. Set Main menu link to the top-level menu item that should open the mega menu.
  4. Enable featured tiles if needed. Aurelia supports up to three editorial tiles, with a configurable display limit.
  5. Add an image, eyebrow, heading, and destination link for each tile.
Tip

The Mega menu block should point to an existing top-level navigation item. Keep menu labels concise so the desktop layout remains balanced.

Commerce

Product pages

The main Product information section is block-based, so merchants can reorder the buying hierarchy without editing code.

Product information blocks

App blockBreadcrumbsVendorProduct titlePriceSKUInventory statusDescriptionVariant pickerQuantity selectorBuy buttonsComplementary productsSharePickup availabilityCustom Liquid

Media gallery

Enable thumbnails, previous/next media buttons, and image zoom. Product media supports Shopify image, video, and supported rich media sources handled by the product media renderer.

Inventory

Set a low-stock threshold and choose whether the remaining quantity should be displayed. Availability updates with the selected variant.

Buy buttons

Choose whether to show the dynamic checkout button and payment terms. The theme also renders Shopify payment-related product information when available.

Pickup availability

Add the Pickup availability block to show location pickup information when local pickup is configured for the product in Shopify.

Complementary products

Add the block and choose how many products to show. Complementary results are requested through Shopify’s product recommendations endpoint.

Sticky add to cart

The separate Sticky add to cart section can show the product image and be enabled independently on desktop and mobile.

Product storytelling sections

Use Product story, Product lifestyle image, Product craft details, and Product details below the core product information to build a longer premium product page without custom code.

06
Options

Swatches & variants

Aurelia supports Shopify’s native option-value swatch data and also recognizes common color option names for the visual swatch treatment.

Product page swatches

  1. Add a Variant picker block to Product information or Featured product.
  2. Turn on Enable swatches.
  3. Use Shopify product option values with native swatch color or swatch image data for the most accurate result.
  4. Option names containing Color, Colour, or Szín are also treated as color options by Aurelia.
  5. Assign different variant media in Shopify if you want the gallery to follow color selections.

Product card swatches

Featured collection, Product grid, Search, and Product recommendations can show color swatches on product cards. Each section has a Show color swatches setting and a swatch limit.

Unavailable combinations

Test products with multiple options such as Color + Size. Aurelia marks unavailable option values and updates the active variant, price, inventory, media, and add-to-cart state as selections change.

08
Buying flow

Cart & checkout

Aurelia includes both a cart drawer and a full cart page. The cart interface respects Shopify line-item properties, discounts, selling-plan information, unit pricing, tax messaging, and accelerated checkout surfaces when available.

Cart drawer

Customers can review and update the cart without leaving the current page. The drawer includes line-item controls and a summary area.

Cart page

The Cart section includes eyebrow, heading, optional cart note, accelerated checkout buttons, and configurable empty-cart messaging.

Free-shipping progress

Enable it under Theme settings → Store utilities and enter the free-shipping minimum used by your store.

Checkout

Aurelia hands the customer to Shopify Checkout. Payment methods, shipping rates, taxes, Markets behavior, and checkout configuration are managed in Shopify admin.

09
Visual content

Images, video & focal points

Aurelia uses responsive Shopify image output throughout the theme. Choose strong source images and use focal points when a section crops media.

Do
  • Upload high-resolution source images.
  • Set Shopify focal points on images where the important subject is off-center.
  • Use dedicated mobile images in sections that provide a Mobile image setting.
  • Add a fallback/poster image when using video.
  • Preview common desktop and mobile widths before publishing.
Avoid
  • Embedding important text directly into product photography.
  • Uploading very small images and stretching them across full-width sections.
  • Using autoplay video without checking mobile loading behavior.
  • Assuming one crop will work for every aspect ratio.

Video-capable sections

Slideshow, Cinematic media, Shoppable scene, and Material notes include video controls such as autoplay, loop, poster/fallback imagery, and control visibility depending on the section.

10
Markets

Localization

Aurelia uses Shopify’s native localization objects for country/region and language selection.

  • Header localizationCountry/region and language controls are available through the header localization interface when multiple choices exist.
  • Footer localizationEnable the country/region selector and language selector independently in the Footer section.
  • LanguagesPublished store languages and translated content are managed in Shopify. The selector only has multiple choices when more than one language is available.
  • MarketsCountry availability, currencies, domains, and market-specific configuration are managed through Shopify Markets.
11
Extensions

Apps & Custom Liquid

Aurelia provides native extension points without requiring merchants to edit the theme source.

App blocks

The main Product information and Featured product sections accept Shopify app blocks. Compatible apps can insert their storefront block directly into the product content order.

Apps section

A dedicated Apps section accepts app blocks on templates where Shopify permits the section to be added.

Custom Liquid block

Product information and Featured product include a Custom Liquid block for small merchant-controlled Liquid additions.

Custom Liquid section

A standalone Custom Liquid section includes content-width, full-width side-padding, and vertical-spacing controls.

Custom code

Custom Liquid and third-party app code can affect layout, performance, and future maintenance. Problems caused by third-party or custom code are outside standard Aurelia theme support.

Common questions

FAQ

Can I change the fonts and colors without code?

Yes. Typography, the main color system, layout width, page margins, shapes, brand assets, and utilities are available under Theme settings.

Can sections use different colors from the global theme?

Many Aurelia sections include their own Background, Text, and Accent settings. Use section-level colors when you need intentional contrast while keeping the global palette consistent.

Why are country or language selectors not visible?

The selectors only become useful when Shopify exposes more than one available country/region or published language. Confirm your Markets and language configuration in Shopify admin.

Does Aurelia support app blocks?

Yes. Product information and Featured product accept app blocks, and the theme also includes a general Apps section.

Can I use video in the theme?

Yes. Slideshow, Cinematic media, Shoppable scene, and Material notes include video-capable settings.

Where do social links come from?

Add social URLs under Theme settings → Social media. The Footer social media block reads those global settings.

Does theme support include custom development?

No. Standard support covers Aurelia bugs, built-in functionality, and guidance on native settings. Bespoke design changes, third-party app customization, and store-specific development are separate services.

Fix common issues

Troubleshooting

Swatches do not appear

Confirm the Variant picker block has Enable swatches turned on. For native visual swatches, add swatch data to Shopify option values. Also confirm the product has more than the default variant.

Quick View / Quick Add is missing

Check Theme settings → Store utilities → Enable quick view, then confirm the relevant product-card section has Show quick add enabled.

Collection filters are empty

Make sure filters are configured for the storefront in Shopify Search & Discovery and that Show filters is enabled in Product grid or Search.

Predictive search does not show suggestions

Open Header settings and make sure both Show search and Enable predictive search are enabled.

Pickup availability is not shown

Confirm the Pickup availability block is present and local pickup is configured for an eligible Shopify location and product.

Product recommendations are empty

Recommendations depend on Shopify’s recommendation data for the current product. The section remains empty if Shopify returns no products.

Localization selectors are missing

Check that more than one country/region or language is actually available to the storefront, then enable the desired selector in Header/Footer settings.

An image crops the wrong area

Edit the image in Shopify and set its focal point where available. For sections with a dedicated image-position setting, adjust that setting as well.
