Avenquill documentation

Build your store with confidence.

A practical guide to installing, configuring and customizing Avenquill. The wording follows the current Shopify theme editor so merchants can find settings quickly.

Version 1.0.0Shopify OS 2.0Updated September 2026
01 · First steps

Getting started

Avenquill is configured from Shopify’s theme editor. Normal store setup does not require editing theme code.

  1. Upload the theme ZIP and keep it unpublished while configuring.
  2. Start with Theme settings: typography, colors, layout, shapes, brand assets and store utilities.
  3. Connect menus, products, collections, blog content, Markets and social links.
  4. Review Home, Product, Collection, Search, Cart, Blog, Article, About, Contact and Password templates.
  5. Test variants, cart, filters, search, localization, mobile layout and checkout links before publishing.
02 · Global controls

Theme settings

Typography, layout, shapes and colors

Use the global controls for heading/body fonts, Content side margin, corner radii, background, text, accent and button colors.

Store utilities

Quick View, free-shipping progress and the back-to-top control live here. Product-card settings used across Collection and Search are shared globally so merchants do not have to configure the same card options repeatedly.

Newsletter

Theme settings → Newsletter contains the global Eyebrow, Heading and Text. Newsletter sections use this global content by default through Use global newsletter content. Turn it off when one section needs its own local copy. Form behavior and colors remain section-level.

04 · Page building

Homepage & section reference

Collection cards

Use one to four selected collections. Classic and Editorial layouts automatically create a deliberate centered composition for 1–4 cards, with image overrides and responsive mobile behavior.

Collection hero

Collection pages can use a Single feature image or an Editorial image pair. Pair mode uses the collection image plus the first different product image it can find; if no distinct second image is available, Avenquill falls back to a single-image hero instead of duplicating the same media. Mobile keeps the primary image full width.

Image with text

Avenquill now uses one shared Image with text section across Home, About and Collection templates. It supports image position, desktop/mobile imagery, alignment, copy and an optional button. Alternating About-page layouts can still be built by switching left/right media position.

Benefits bar & Values

Benefits bar supports up to six concise USP items. Each benefit can use an Avenquill line icon or an optional custom icon, a short Heading, a Short description and an optional link. Desktop and landscape tablet layouts share the row evenly; phones and portrait tablets use a two-column grid (four items appear as 2×2; six appear as 2×3). This layout responds automatically to viewport size; there is no separate mobile-layout setting. The row height is a minimum rather than a fixed height, so longer merchant copy can wrap without being clipped. Values remains a separate brand-level section for longer principles with Icon, Heading and Text blocks.

Before and after

Choose Landscape, Classic, Square or Portrait. Taller ratios are intentionally constrained so the comparison stays balanced instead of becoming excessively tall.

About quote & Cinematic media

White-text image treatments use a consistent darker overlay language so placeholders and real media communicate the intended final presentation clearly in the Theme Editor.

Contact form

The Contact form includes optional Help item blocks for practical contact information and an optional Order number field, enabled by default. Keep the extra field on when order-specific support is common, or turn it off for a simpler general-contact form.

Section spacing

New and consolidated sections use clear Top spacing and Bottom spacing controls where merchant adjustment is useful, rather than inconsistent or overly broad vertical-spacing settings.

05 · Commerce

Product pages

Product information is block-based so merchants can reorder the buying hierarchy without editing code. Blocks include breadcrumbs, vendor, title, price, SKU, inventory, description, variants, quantity, buy buttons, complementary products, share, pickup availability, app blocks and Custom Liquid.

Product Composer

Use Product Composer and the product storytelling sections to build longer premium product pages while keeping the core buying information focused. For the design rationale behind that structure, read How to Build an Editorial Shopify Product Page.

Product Details accordion

Accordion rows can contain rich text, reusable page content and Custom Liquid. They can also include an optional document download for care guides, size guides, warranty PDFs or technical sheets. If the link is filled and the label is blank, Avenquill uses a localized default download label.

Dynamic sources & metafields

For product-specific content, connect compatible section or block settings to Shopify metafields using dynamic sources. Shared content such as Shipping & Returns can stay static or come from a reusable page.

Product recommendations

Recommendations use Shopify recommendation data. If no data is available, the storefront stays clean. The Theme Editor shows a small helper explaining why the section is empty.

Product craft details

The optional final supporting text is labelled Closing note in the editor.

06 · Options

Swatches & variants

Avenquill supports Shopify’s native swatch data and common color option names. Product-card swatches are controlled by the shared global product-card settings instead of separate duplicated controls on every grid.

  1. Add a Variant picker block to Product information or Featured product.
  2. Enable swatches.
  3. Use native Shopify swatch colors or images for the most accurate result.
  4. Assign variant media in Shopify when the gallery should follow color/material changes.
08 · Buying flow

Cart & checkout

Avenquill includes a cart drawer and full cart page with quantity updates, discounts, selling-plan information, unit pricing, tax messaging, notes and accelerated checkout surfaces when available.

The empty-cart button uses Shopify’s all-products collection route as a fallback when no custom link is provided.

Free-shipping progress

Enable this only when the threshold matches the store’s real shipping configuration. Enter the amount in the store currency; Avenquill shows the progress indicator only when the customer is browsing in that same currency. Keep it disabled when no matching shipping rule exists.

09 · Visual content

Images, video & focal points

Use high-resolution source media, Shopify focal points where relevant, dedicated mobile images where available, and a fallback/poster image for video.

Slideshow, Cinematic media, Shoppable scene and Material notes support video-oriented layouts. Always test controls, autoplay behavior and mobile loading in the real storefront.

10 · Markets

Localization

Avenquill uses Shopify’s native country/region and language forms. The current theme includes English, Spanish, German, French and Italian storefront locale files. Published languages, translations, currencies, domains and market availability remain managed in Shopify.

The selectors only show meaningful choices when more than one relevant language or market option is available to the storefront.

11 · Extensions

Apps & Custom Liquid

Product information and Featured product accept Shopify app blocks. Avenquill also includes a general Apps section and Custom Liquid insertion points for merchant-controlled extensions.

Custom Liquid and third-party app code can affect layout, performance and maintenance. Problems caused by third-party code remain outside standard theme support.

Troubleshooting

Product recommendations are empty

Shopify may not return recommendation data immediately. The storefront stays empty by design; the Theme Editor helper is only for merchant guidance.

Swatches do not appear

Confirm the Variant picker has swatches enabled and that Shopify option values contain native swatch data or use a recognized color option name.

Collection filters are empty

Configure storefront filters in Shopify Search & Discovery, then enable filters in the collection/search template.

Localization selectors are missing

Confirm more than one country/region or published language is available, then enable the desired selector.

Still stuck?

Open Avenquill support and include the template, expected behavior, actual behavior and screenshots.
