Shopify store development case study – what do the real B2C sales figures show?

When developing a Shopify store for a business, it is easy to focus only on appearance. The real question is how well its structure, product pages, branding and customer journey support business operations, trust and purchasing decisions.

In this article, I examine a Shopify store I developed and its anonymised data. The aim is not to reveal sensitive client or product details, but to show the lessons, decisions and measurable outcomes that can sit behind a well-structured store. This topic lies at the intersection of store structure, a Shopify store development and web design: it is not just about appearance, but about the shopping journey, trust and business operations.

Shopify store case study – anonymised sales figures and key metrics

In brief: the store's B2C channel processed more than HUF 33 million in total sales value over roughly one year, while just 15 products generated sales among a large number of products and variants. B2B sales take place separately on a project basis.

Key figures at a glance

Over the approximately one-year period analysed, the store processed HUF 33,168,420 in total sales value, of which HUF 26,116,864 in gross revenue is recorded. The system logged 57 orders, including 54 fulfilled orders, valamint and an average order value of HUF 458,190 szerepel.

B2C and B2B context: what do the figures represent?

An important distinction is that these figures relate to the store's B2C online sales channel. The company's B2B activity, larger orders and project-based sales follow a separate process and are therefore not included in these online store figures.

This matters because the case study is not about the company's overall financial performance. Instead, it shows what an independent B2C Shopify store handled: traffic, product pages, orders, order values and customers' decision journeys.

These figures should not be interpreted as “the design alone generated this revenue”. Store performance always depends on the products, pricing, marketing, market conditions, client communication and inventory. Web design and store structure can, however, help reduce the loss of existing customer interest along the way.

What do these numbers mean?

The high An average order value of HUF 458,190 suggests that these are considered purchases, not impulse buys. The bigger the decision, the more important it is for a store to be clear, trustworthy and transparent.

The order count may not seem huge in isolation, but the average basket value changes the picture. When analysing a store, conversion rate alone is not enough: product prices, decision cycles, traffic quality and average order value all matter together.

Why does product structure matter?

This store has a very large number of products and variants, but not everything is in stock and not every product has a fixed price that can be displayed immediately. That is a realistic situation for a retailer offering more complex, higher-value products or items with many configurations.

It is therefore especially interesting that the store still processed more than HUF 33 million in total sales value while 15 products generated the sales. That does not make the other products unnecessary, but it does mean that key products deserve particular attention in terms of product pages, availability, prices and presentation.

In brief: the sheer number of products is not always what matters most in an online store. Often it is more important that the key products are presented clearly, build confidence and are ready to purchase.

What may have helped this store perform well?

Several factors may have contributed. Design alone cannot solve everything, but it can help visitors stay oriented, avoid unnecessary uncertainty and understand exactly where to go next.

Shopify store case study lessons – product structure, average order value and measurement

The same approach matters for a service business website: the web design, brand identity and the written content are not separate worlds but parts of one system that needs to build trust.

What can a business learn from this?

When planning an online store, the question is not simply whether it looks good. It is whether it helps people choose, reduces uncertainty and builds enough confidence for higher-value purchases.

FAQ

What does an online store case study show?

It shows how design, structure, product pages, trust and measurement work together. A useful case study goes beyond listing figures and helps explain which decisions may have supported the results.

What does a high average order value mean?

It means each order requires a greater degree of trust. Customers may expect more information, better product presentation, clearer terms and a more professional brand experience.

Why does it matter that only 15 products generated sales?

It shows that the size of a catalogue is not everything. The positioning, availability, price, product page and trust-building content of key products can have a much greater impact on sales.

Are B2B sales included in these figures?

No. These figures relate to the store's B2C online shopping channel. B2B sales and larger projects are handled separately on a project basis, so this case study focuses specifically on lessons from the online consumer store.

Is conversion rate enough on its own?

No. Conversion needs to be considered alongside basket value, traffic quality, product price ranges, stock availability and the customer's decision cycle.

Summary

This case study does not claim that one design decision produced tens of millions in revenue. Instead, it shows how important structure, product pages, visual trust and measurement can be to a functioning Shopify store.
